Hormone Therapy
BIO-IDENTICAL HORMONE REPLACEMENT THERAPY
As hormone levels decline with age, patients may experience symptoms such as fatigue, weight changes, brain fog, low libido, mood changes, and decreased overall vitality. BHRT is designed to help restore balance, improve quality of life, and support long-term wellness in a more natural and physiologic way.
BioTE pellet therapy has been studied and used for decades in both the United States and internationally. Research continues to evaluate the safety and effectiveness of bioidentical hormone therapy, including its role in supporting bone health, cardiovascular health, mood, cognition, and overall metabolic function. At Health Horizons, our providers follow evidence-based protocols and ongoing clinical education to ensure patients receive safe, appropriate, and individualized care.
We understand that hormone therapy is a personal decision. Our role is to provide education, clinical insight, and guidance so you can make an informed choice based on your symptoms, goals, and overall health.
We encourage you to schedule a consultation to learn more about BioTE BHRT and whether hormone optimization may be right for you.
Frequently Asked Questions
A: Natural hormones have the same chemical structures as the hormones secreted by the ovaries, adrenal glands, or testes. Therefore they are identical to what your body biologically produces.
A: The hormones are made in a lab to replicate the natural human hormone. The hydrogen, oxygen, nitrogen and carbon atoms are obtained from Mexican sweet potatoes or soy. There is no soy or sweet potato left in the finished hormone. When finished, they are identical to your natural hormones.
A: Not usually, most commonly you start in early peri-menopause with a low dose, and gradually increase to an average higher dose in menopause. With time you taper back down the dose to maintain good health while relieving the symptoms of low hormones.
A: Estradiol, testosterone, pregnenolone, estriol, DHEA and sometimes progesterone.
A: Everyone is different. What is best for one, may not be best for another. Sometimes you need to try 2 or 3 different delivery systems, until you find what works best for you. Troches and sublinguals give about 20% absorption, whereas gels and oil capsules give 10 – 12% absorption.
Ideally the best way to take troche, oral, sublingual and topical doses is one half of the daily dose every 12 hours. However, a testosterone troche or sublingual for libido is best to take 2 hours before bedtime. Progesterone is best to take at bedtime since it may make you sleepy.
Shots are primarily used for men and must be given every three days. They do not give an even release and symptoms will still come and go depending on when the shot was given and hormone released.

A: Symptoms will usually be relieved equally or more, as long as the patient is balanced properly. Using blood hormone testing will accomplish this as well as monitoring symptoms. There is a wide range of “normal” hormone levels. We prefer to treat patients…… not lab tests. We treat your symptoms.
A: Yes, when dosed properly with testosterone as well as estrogen, the natural hormones will help to prevent Osteoporosis as well as reverse it. Studies show 8 ½ % bone replacement yearly on pellets.
A: Blood testing for Testosterone, should be done. If it is low, then natural HRT should be used with a testosterone supplement to raise the testosterone levels. This can be done with the HRT pellets or with a less effective troche choice.
A: No. They may tell you they are covered when you call, but they are not aware of what we use. We do not file to any insurance for pellets. However, many of our patients use a health savings account or Flex account set up and can use this to pay for pellets with pre-tax dollars. Your human resource office will be able to tell you if such an account is possible where you work. Troches are never covered and HSAs can not be used.
What is Pellet Therapy?
The pellets are the size of a pencil lead and are placed in the fatty tissue underneath the skin. Pellets closely mimic the actions of healthy ovaries and testicles with regards to hormone release 24 hours a day into the bloodstream. The implantation procedure is easily performed in the office with local anesthesia.
for Women
Pellet implants have been used to treat migraine and menstrual headaches. It also helps with vaginal dryness, incontinence, urinary urgency and frequency. Hundreds of studies show natural testosterone to be HIGHLY PREVENTATIVE against breast cancer, osteoporosis, and Alzheimer’s dementia.

for Men
Symptoms of testosterone deficiency in men include fatigue, lack of mental acuity, weakness, loss of libido, and difficulty achieving, or sustaining erection. It is never too late to benefit from hormone therapy.
Pellet Therapy achieves the sustained levels of testosterone that would be produced by normally functioning testicles. This form of therapy is the only kind that produces the natural level of hormone that men need 24 hours a day.
Because the testosterone used is Human Identical, Pellet Therapy is ideal for men wanting the benefits of a natural hormone, without the drawbacks of a synthetic. Many studies show optimal testosterone levels in men to be greater than 800. This level has preventative effects for many disease states such as: cardiovascular disease, Alzheimer’s disease, prostate cancer, osteoporosis, and more.
Typical oral and transdermal forms of therapy produce “roller coaster” blood levels of testosterone, which can result in mood and energy fluctuations for the patient. Rollercoaster levels of hormones do not have the same long term benefits as steady state hormone in the bloodstream achieved only with Pellets.
